The director who directed the first Harry Potter film almost 25 years ago has spoken out about the arrival of the large-scale Potter reboot series. Chris Columbus made the first two parts in 2001 and 2002 before handing over the director’s baton to Alfonso Cuarón, and he calls the idea for the new series “spectacular”.
More space
The new adaptation of JK Rowling’s beloved book series was given the green light in 2023 and has since been wagging tongues in fan circles. A leading HBO Max CEO confirmed a while ago that the series will follow a timeline of about ten years, with each book being a ‘faithful adaptation’ of multiple episodes. Good news, thinks Columbus:
You can take everything that we didn’t have room for in the films into the series (…) I’m really looking forward to seeing how they will tackle that

The first films
Columbus emphasizes that at the time of the first films he tried to include as much material from the books as possible in the start of the franchise. The first film lasted two and a half hours, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) even a little longer.
Castingproces
The recordings of the new one Harry Potterseries will begin this summer, led by so-called showrunner Francesca Gardiner. Last fall, a major casting process was initiated to find the young performers of Harry, Hermione and Ron, among others.
