Despite a heating outage, a school remains open in Villeurbanne

High-performance electric heaters placed in the room for some 17 children grouped in the same class this Tuesday in the Lakanal school in Villeurbanne, near Lyon. The students kept their hats, gloves and coats. Since Friday, the boilers of this school group, which accommodates 65 children in nursery school and 196 in primary school, have been broken and the temperature has risen to 7°C in the rooms.

Faced with this situation, “no official measures have been taken”, denounces the United National Union of Directors, Teachers and Professors of Public Education Schools (SNUDI-FO).

School closure demanded

“We let the staff manage, asking parents not to drop off their children at school,” the union wrote in a press release. It doesn’t matter if there is no learning, it doesn’t matter the temperature in the classrooms. » The SNUDI-FO asks, in particular, to accommodate students in other premises or to close the school to allow parents to have certificates for their employers.

“The staff refuse to have to provide daycare in the premises in freezing temperatures! », He indicates, specifying that he wants to question the academy inspector again this Tuesday so that “this situation stops and a valid solution is found”.

Our file on National Education

According to Progressthe town hall’s technical services attempted to intervene on the boilers twice, without success. The town hall assured the local newspaper that “the necessary part” to repair the heating system should arrive this Tuesday. The city of Villeurbanne also specified that “the closure of the school (was) a matter for National Education”.
