The grid display on the Instagram profile is no longer square, it has changed to a rectangle

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Instagram’s appearance has changed. This appearance change occurred on the profile page, where the photo grid was originally square. However, with this change, the grid display will be rectangular.

This change has not yet been rolled out to all Instagram users, but some accounts have mentioned a difference in the grid appearance on their profiles. A number of users also uploaded screenshots of changes to the appearance of this grid.

In his Instagram Story, as quoted The VergeMonday (20/1/2025), Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri, said, Instagram has started rolling out this appearance change this weekend.

“I understand that some of you really like the square look, and photos in a square shape feel like a legacy of Instagram. But now, most of the uploaded content, both photos and videos, uses a vertical orientation, so it would be a shame to crop it excessively,” said Adam Mosseri .

Mosseri realized that for some Instagram users, this change would certainly be unpleasant.

“I think users in the long term will like it because more of their photos and videos look the way they should on their profile, rather than being aggressively cropped,” he said.

What Mosseri said is quite similar to what he said last August. At that time, Instagram confirmed that it was conducting limited testing regarding changes to the appearance of the Instagram grid on user profiles.

It’s not just a change in the grid appearance, Instagram also announced that today they added a new point in the Reels feed that allows users to see videos liked by friends on IG.

Later, users can interact with influencers and celebrities directly from Instagram, not from other or separate applications.
