Liputan6.com, Jakarta – TikTok’s fate in the United States gets an ‘extra life’. This was revealed by the President-elect of the United States (US), Donald Trump.
Quoting South China Morning PostSunday (19/1/2025), President-elect Donald Trump indicated that he would give this short video application an additional 90 days to continue operating in the US.
In an interview with NBC, Trump will announce the decision to suspend TikTok’s ban on Monday—-right on the day of his inauguration as the 47th US President.
TikTok previously faced the threat of closure on Sunday, January 19 2025, if its parent company, ByteDance, failed to sell the application to a US-based company.
The move is part of a national security policy encouraging the transfer of US user data from being managed by foreign entities, and concerns about national security.
However, Donald Trump opened the opportunity for a 90 day extension. “A 90-day extension is a very likely option that will be exercised, because it is appropriate,” Trump said in the interview.
Respons TikTok dan CEO Shou Zi Chew
TikTok CEO, Shou Chew, gave his direct response several hours after the Supreme Court issued a decision regarding blocking TikTok in the US.
“I want to thank President Trump for his commitment to working with us to find a solution that keeps TikTok available in the United States,” said Shou Chew.
“This is a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship,” said the TikTok CEO.
TikTok has been in the spotlight since 2020 because it was deemed to threaten national security with the management of US user data by ByteDance, a company from China.
The previous administration demanded that ByteDance sell the platform to a US company or TikTok be shut down.
