Looking ahead to Donald Trump’s upcoming entry into the presidency of the United States tomorrow, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo assured that her Government has prepared a comprehensive strategy to support Mexicans in the event of mass deportations.
In her morning conference at the National Palace, the President stressed that the defense of her compatriots will be a priority in the dialogues with the new US Government. “We will always defend Mexicans who are in the United States. The numbers show the importance of Mexicans in the US economy, and in any dialogue that begins we will put this issue as a priority,” he indicated.
Sheinbaum explained that his administration has worked with the country’s entities to implement a support plan that guarantees access to social programs, employment and temporary accommodation spaces for those who are repatriated. He stated that the strategy is ready, but its implementation will depend on the decisions of the United States Government.
In addition, he highlighted the efforts of the Mexican consulates to provide legal advice and support to Mexicans in the United States, as well as the importance of the consuls in this process.
Regarding the fight against fentanyl trafficking, a topic of interest to Trump, Sheinbaum indicated that a high-level dialogue will be sought to coordinate joint strategies on issues of migration, security and trade. He emphasized that Mexico will insist on stopping the flow of weapons from the United States as part of bilateral negotiations.
The President also called to address the structural causes of migration, ensuring that the majority of people migrate out of necessity. For this reason, he reiterated the importance of collaborating with the Governments of Central and South America to offer better living conditions in the countries of origin.
On another topic, during a tour of Guerrero, Sheinbaum urged young people to actively participate in the country’s transformation and invited them to reflect on the “historic moment” that Mexico is experiencing. When handing out cards from the Youth Building the Future program, he stated that youth are the nation’s present and deserve a dignified life.
