Not only that, privacy advocates in the US also warned users not to use RedNote.
In a statement, senior technology officer at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Cooper Quintin, warned, “anyone who views privacy as a personal safety issue should think twice before downloading RedNote. The EFF has similar concerns about US-based apps like Facebook.”
He added that people looking for alternative social networking apps should be careful about the privacy and security impacts of sharing information with apps that have never come under public scrutiny outside China.
“This is certainly not a platform that values free speech, but a heavily censored application, more tightly controlled than similar social networks. It is also not a platform that will protect users from surveillance for sharing data with Facebook and Google networks,” said Quintin.
