Exposure to sodium hypochlorite, commonly known as chlorine, would have been the cause of poisoning of a group of approximately forty people who were visiting the Atotonilco spa, municipality of Tepalcingo, in Cuernavaca.
The Ministry of Health received the report at 6:30 p.m. yesterday and immediately health personnel, elements of the Regulatory Center for Medical Emergencies (CRUM) and municipal Civil Protection went to the scene to provide medical care.
After evaluations, the health authority established that only three people presented mild symptoms of poisoning from the chemical used to clean pools.
“After the corresponding assessments, it was confirmed that only three people presented mild symptoms of poisoning, two minors and one adult, who were treated in a timely manner and are out of danger,” the Health sector said in a press release.
However, he added, the 40 people involved were transferred preventively to the Tepalcingo Sentinel Unit, in the east of the state, where they received additional medical attention and it was determined that the discomfort they presented was mild and did not require hospitalization, so they were examined right there.
The Ministry of Health highlighted that adequate and timely medical care was provided at all times, and people’s lives were never at risk, which is why health authorities have assured that there are no serious complications.
Likewise, local hospitals are on alert, although those involved are not expected to present additional symptoms, he said.
