Director Olivier Assayas, ventures after films like Wasp Network (2019), Paris, I love you (2006) in Personal Shopper (2016)on a striking new project. He’s working on the movie The Wizard of the Kremlina film about an advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Filmmaker as advisor to the president
Of filmThe Wizard of the Kremlin was announced last spring. It was also known at the time that Law would play a role in this, but what role was still unclear at the time. In addition to Law, the film also stars Paul Dano, Alicia Vikander, Tom Sturridge, Zach Galifianakis and Jeffrey Wright. The film focuses on a young Russian filmmaker who is surprisingly chosen as an advisor to the president. As Putin rises to power in post-Soviet Russia, the adviser’s job is to navigate him through the complexity and chaos of the new era.
‘What have I done?’
Law himself revealed in a recent interview that he will be playing the role of Putin in the upcoming film, not an easy task if you ask him.
I say it with some hesitation because I haven’t really started it yet. I mean, I’ve started, but right now it seems like an Everest to climb so I’m standing at the base looking up thinking ‘Oh God, what have I done?’
The film is based on the book of the same name, written by Giuliano da Empoli. The filmmaker around whom the story revolves is played by Dano. How the rest of the roles are divided has not yet been announced.
