An evacuation order sent by mistake Thursday throughout Los Angeles County due to violent fires that killed at least ten people caused panic and anger among residents.
“An evacuation warning has been issued in your area,” according to the text alert, urging residents to “gather loved ones, pets and supplies” to evacuate.
But, in truth, it is a false alarm, since the representative to the Los Angeles County Council, Janice Hahn, admitted that the alert was sent in error, according to what reported the “New York Post.
“I have been informed that the evacuation warning many of us just received on our phones was issued in error countywide due to a technical error,” she wrote, adding that a correction “will be published shortly”.
The alert was initially intended to relate to a specific area affected by the fires in Woodland Hills as stated in the correction alert: “Disregard the latest evacuation warning. It only concerns the Kenneth firefighters.
This misstep by the administration has aroused the ire of residents, many of whom are calling on California’s Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, and Los Angeles mayor, Karen Bass, to resign.
“Well done to the county for sending out an INCORRECT evacuation alert for the entire county and scaring a lot of people,” quipped a resident on the X platform, citing the case of her neighbor who found himself in a state of panic .
