You know Holes (2003) with Shia LaBeouf and Sigourney Weaver yet? The more than 20-year-old film is being transformed by Disney+ into a real series, but with a twist: now it revolves around a teenage girl, instead of a teenage boy.
Digging holes
The 2003 film was in turn based on the 1998 novel of the same name by Louis Sachar. In the film we saw a young Shia LaBeouf as Stanley, who suffers from a family curse. Due to his accident, he is sent to ‘Camp Green Lake’, a kind of youth prison. There he has to dig holes with the other teenagers “to build character”. But the guards have a completely different reason for this assignment…
Female reboot
This time in the new series, a teenage girl is sent to a detention camp. There, the ruthless director forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose. The series is written by Alina Mankin with Liz Phang at the helm as series creator. Phang previously worked as a producer on series such as The Haunting of Hill House (2018), Locke & Key (2020–2022) in Yellowjackets (2021– ).
