The commander of the Municipal Police of Guanajuato, Raúl Israel Bonilla Partida, was murdered by armed men at his home, located in the El Carrizo neighborhood.
The attack took place at 9:45 a.m. this Thursday, when the officer in charge was leaving his home to get into a patrol car.
The neighbors informed the 911 Emergency System about the shots that were heard in the building located between Tajo de la Gloria and Panorámica del Carrizo streets.
During this day’s City Council session, The municipal president, Samantha Smith, pointed out that the attack against Commander Bonilla “is a consequence of the recent arrests in the state capital.”
“This cowardly attack is a consequence of the pressure we have exerted with our actions and recent arrests,” he said.

Samantha Smith mourned the death of “a brave man who gave his life defending the security of Guanajuato” and asked for a minute of silence.
The mayor asserted that she is working closely with the State Attorney General’s Office to clarify this case and bring those responsible to justice.
He offered that the Citizen Security Commissioner will officially provide more details about the homicide.
Smith said he will not rest in his commitment to guarantee a safer environment for all Guanajuato families.
This is the first homicide of the year of a police officer and the second attack on security elements in the state; The first was early last Monday in the Buenavista community, in the municipality of Yuriria, Guanajuato, where armed men confronted state police and elements of the Army, leaving 3 officers injured and ten civilians killed.
