The idea of making Canada 51e American state seems to charm some Americans, who see the country’s natural resources as beneficial to their economy.

The opinion of the citizens of Plattsburgh interviewed by TVA Nouvelles is therefore the opposite of that of President-elect Donald Trump, who affirmed Thursday that the United States did not need Canada.
“It would be good for the economy. All your resources would be good for us. Especially oil. If we were together, it would make a lot of sense,” said a former soldier.
However, the latter does not believe he will see this project come to fruition “during his lifetime”.
“It’s just politics,” he added.
“It’s a good idea, I have a lot of friends in Canada,” continued one of the man’s friends, adding that in any case, “there is no border” between Canada and the UNITED STATES.
“We cross easily. We are friends,” he said.
A motorist interviewed by TVA Nouvelles said he was “perfectly happy” that Canada and the United States are two separate countries.
“Canada is a great country. It has its own identity. He doesn’t need the United States,” he explained.
