The tributes continue on Thursday with a ceremony in front of the Hyper Cacher and an evening of debates organized by the Crif (Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France) and Charlie Hebdo. The commemorations began at noon with a tribute ceremony organized by Crif in front of the Porte de Vincennes supermarket. Four people were killed there during jihadist attacks in January 2015.
On January 9, 2015, four customers of the Hyper Cacher convenience store were killed during a hostage taking led by Amedy Coulibaly, claiming to be a member of the Islamic State. He was then shot dead during an assault by the police.
Ten candles in memory of the victims
Several ministers were expected (Bruno Retailleau, Gérald Darmanin and Manuel Valls in particular) as well as the President of the Senate Gérard Larcher, the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and the President of the Ile-de-France region Valérie Pécresse.
Ten candles are lit in memory of those killed during the attacks of January 2015. But also professors Samuel Paty and Dominique Bernard, victims of anti-Semitism in France since the early 2000s and terrorism around the world. As well as hostages and victims of Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023.
An “evening of debates and tribute”, joint with Charlie Hebdo, will also be organized from 7 p.m. at the Mutualité de Paris. It is about “rediscovering the spirit of the demonstration of January 11, 2015”, which brought together nearly 4 million people after the attacks, and “reaffirming a shared republican commitment to freedom of expression, against anti-Semitism and Islamism, for secularism,” according to Crif.

This evening is under the slogan “we are the Republic” and among the speakers are the lawyer of Charlie Hebdo Richard Malka, the comedian Sophia Aram, the director of Fondapol Dominique Reynié and the essayist Caroline Fourest .
For its part, the RAAR (Network of Actions Against Anti-Semitism and All Racisms) is organizing a rally “against intolerance, anti-Semitism and all racisms” at 6 p.m. in front of the Hyper Cacher. SOS-Racisme, Golem and the UJRE (Union of Jews for Resistance and Mutual Aid) are joining forces with this initiative, according to the RAAR.
