Previously, the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, revealed that he had met Nick Amman, Apple’s Vice President of Global Policy.
In the closed meeting, Rosan said there was an investment agreement with Apple to build a factory in Batam.
“In essence, they are fully committed to developing the first phase of the AirTag vendor worth USD 1 billion,” said Rosan at the Office of the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, Jakarta, as quoted from the Bisnis Liputan6.com channel, Wednesday (8/1/2025).
He explained that 65 percent of the global demand for Apple AirTags will be produced from a factory in Batam. It is stated that this is the first step in Apple’s investment in Indonesia with a value of around USD 1 billion or the equivalent of IDR 16 trillion.
“The plan to build an Apple factory in Batam is a positive step. We hope that in the future we can bring in more vendors to build factories in Indonesia,” he said.
