Two teenage half-sisters were arrested in Pakistan after burning their father to death, local police said Wednesday. The drama took place in Gujranwala, in the conservative province of Punjab. According to authorities, the two girls accuse their father of raping them or attempting to do so.
A “permanent solution” to end abuse
The teenagers, whose identities have not been revealed, are said to have decided to take matters into their own hands in the face of the lack of protection. Rizwan Tariq, a senior police official, said the two sisters had agreed to find a “permanent solution” to end the abuse. The man allegedly raped the eldest for a year and attempted to attack the youngest twice.
On the night of January 1, the girls used gasoline taken from a motorcycle to douse their sleeping father before setting him on fire. Severely burned, he died in hospital on Tuesday from his injuries.

Their mothers knew about the abuse
The two teenagers come from a polygamous home. Their mothers, both married to the victim, knew of the sexual abuse but were unaware of their daughters’ murderous intentions. According to police, one of the mothers has been arrested, while the second is still being questioned.
The man’s identity has not been released to protect the anonymity of the two teenagers. Authorities said the sisters and the detained mother will be produced in court in the coming days once the investigation is completed.
