Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII) and Bersama Digital Data Center (BDDC) officially launched the Second Indonesia Internet Exchange Jakarta (IIX-JK2) at BDDC’s newest data center facility, JST1, located in East Jakarta.
This strategic step aims to strengthen Indonesia’s digital ecosystem by providing more efficient, faster and safer interconnection infrastructure – while also answering the industry’s need for reliable connectivity.
IIX-JK2 is present as a complement to the Indonesia Internet Exchange (IIX) which has been operating at Cyber 1. This initiative focuses on an approach between internet service providers (ISP) with digital content providers and hyperscalers.
The General Chair of APJII, Muhammad Arif, emphasized the urgency of IIX-JK2’s presence amidst the drastic growth in internet traffic.
“With internet traffic growth increasing more than tenfold in the last three years – from 1.3 Tbps in 2021 to 14 Tbps at the end of 2024 (peak traffic) – the presence of IIX-JK2 is an urgent need,” said Arif via his statement, Monday (6/1/2025).
He added, this infrastructure will facilitate more efficient traffic connections for ISPs, reduce latency, and support digital transformation and national data sovereignty.
BDDC President Commissioner, Setyanto Hantoro, explained that the JST1 data center was designed as a Tier IV facility that has received global certification from the Uptime Institute. With a capacity of 5 megawatts, JST1 is ready to support reliable and scalable 24/7 operations.
“Through collaboration with APJII in IIX-JK2, we ensure better interconnectivity, which not only speeds up data distribution, but also strengthens the national digital ecosystem,” said Setyanto.
He said, with legal certainty, competitive electricity rates and supportive incentives, Indonesia has the potential to become a data center investment center in Southeast Asia.
