The recordings of the hit Dune: Part Two (2024) were anything but easy. The desert looks beautiful on screen with its orange glow, but during the recordings that beauty also turned out to have a dark side. Zendaya reveals in a recent interview how avoiding a bathroom break almost led to a physical disaster.
Worse than peeing in your bed?
Zendaya has faced many physical challenges in recent years. It started with the serious training for Challengers (2024)in which she plays the role of a very fit tennis player. Not long after, she was expected in the sweltering deserts of Jordan and the Arab Emirates for her role Dune Part: Two. During the recordings, the actors had to complete a long walking route to the filming locations every day, so taking a break for a bathroom break was not easy.
If you have to pee you will need at least 10 minutes to get out of the costume. I thought, ‘Damn, I don’t want to drink too much water.’ I was so scared of peeing in my costume, or pooping, to be honest.
Tough conditions
Limiting water intake did not go without a hitch for the actress. Zendaya suffered from heatstroke that was accompanied by nausea. The actress now says that she has learned her lesson, she needs to take better care of herself. Director Denis Villeneuve confirmed the harsh conditions during filming and described the environment and conditions as extremely exhausting.
