Previously, a Russian court imposed a fine of 3 million rubles or USD 28,929 (equivalent to Rp. 467 million) on TikTok.
Quoting Reuters, Monday (30/12/2024), this fine was imposed because TikTok was deemed guilty of failing to comply with legal regulations in Russia.
According to the ruling of the Moscow city court, the rules that were violated were regarding the distribution of certain information belonging to children. More details were not disclosed regarding what kind of violations were committed by TikTok.
Meanwhile, another source from The Daily Star revealed that this legal step in the form of imposing fines on TikTok from Russia adds to the long list of legal challenges faced by TikTok in various countries.
This social media platform owned by Chinese technology company ByteDance is facing problems in various countries.
For example, in the United States, TikTok has been threatened with an operational ban, due to fears about violating the privacy and security of user data in that country.
Previously, this December, TikTok also faced a year-long ban in Albania.
Not to mention, last November the Canadian government also wanted to stop the TikTok application in that country, citing national security risks.
