800,000 homes are deprived of television and some people also of telephones after the fire of a telecommunications and broadcasting pylon during the night from Sunday to Monday in the Rhône, reports France Bleu Bourgogne. The criminal trail is being considered. TDF, the company that owns the pylon, filed a complaint.
The pylon, 97 meters high, was set on fire in Cenves (Rhône). All France Télévisions channels can no longer broadcast, just like those of the Canal+ group, LCI and Paris Première. According to the communications manager of TDF, contacted by France Bleu Bourgogne, 800,000 households are affected throughout the perimeter covered by this pylon, i.e. the north of the Rhône and a significant part of the Saône-et-Loire, up to Chalon -sur-Saône.
The pylon also houses the relay antennas of all telephone operators. The networks are therefore disrupted around the installation but there, the perimeter is narrower, specifies TDF, the number of people affected is therefore less significant.
An investigation is underway. According to Patrice Bargas, South-East regional director of TDF, “the criminal nature is beyond doubt since traces of a break-in were found on the site“. TDF assures that it has mobilized its teams to repair as quickly as possible but the intervention proves delicate: the smoke linked to the fire makes accessibility to the site complicated. The company estimates a return to normal within a period of 24 to 48 hours.
