The United States sees signs that Azerbaijan plane could have been shot down by Russia


The spokesman for the White House National Security Council, USAJohn Kirby, stated this Friday, December 27, that there are “preliminary indications” that the plane Azerbaiyan Airlines which crashed last Wednesday in Kazakhstan may have been “shot down” by Russian forces.

“We have detected some indications that point to the possibility that the plane could have been shot down by Russian air defense systems,” Kirby assured.

The spokesperson was thus referring to flight J2-8243 Baku-Grozny that crashed on December 25 near Aktau, Kazakhstan, and in which 38 people died, 3 of them crew members, and 29 survived.

Despite recognizing these first indications, Kirby did not want to give more details and insisted that we must wait for the investigation to develop correctly.

“There is an active investigation underway and I don’t want to get ahead of where we are now,” added the spokesman, who said that the United States has offered “support” in the investigations.

Azerbaijan Airlines indicated today, Friday, that the plane suffered “external physical and technical interference” as indicated by “preliminary results” of the investigation.

The Russian aviation authority recognized this Friday that Ukrainian drones carried out an attack against two cities in Chechnya, including Grozny, and decided to apply a “contingency plan” in the area that coincided with the flight of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane. then damaged.

The majority of those killed were Azerbaijanis, although there are also Russia and Kazakhs, according to the Kazinform news agency.
