He Nevado de Toluca It is a volcano located in the State of Mexico, in the Toluca Valley, and is considered one of the oldest Protected Natural Areas in Mexico.
It is about the fourth highest volcano in the country, with a height of 4,680 meters above sea level. In addition, the mountain slopes provide water to the Lerma and Balsas rivers.
With the arrival of the 2024-2025 winter season, the Technical Contingency Group of the Flora and Fauna Protection Area (APFF) Nevado de Toluca has established key guidelines and restrictions to ensure the safety of visitors and the preservation of this important ecosystem.
Preparation and safety
Before embarking on your adventure, it is important to know the following recommendations:
Recommended equipment: Thermal and mountain-appropriate clothing, ice boots, sun protection, and supplies such as energy bars and water.
Access restrictions: Children under 8 years of age, infants, older adults or people with disabilities who require mobility assistance are not allowed to enter.
Health conditions: Avoid climbing if you suffer from diseases such as diabetes, hypertension or heart conditions.
During the stay
Attention to mountain sickness: If you experience headache, nausea, difficulty breathing or arrhythmia, immediately contact emergency services or return to the starting point.
Respect for the trails: Going off the marked routes can result in getting lost. In case of emergency, call 911.
