Only four people were detected by officers of the breathalyzer operation carried out by the Road Police of the State Security Secretariat.
Just over 80 Highway Police officers worked in the “Saving Lives” program, also known as “torito,” which was deployed in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area during Christmas Eve.
In total, 2,444 breathalyzer tests were administered, of which only four tested positive for excess alcohol, and whose people were detained and sent to the Urban Traffic Detention Center for Alcohol Testing (CURVA), and those who could not spend Christmas Eve with their families, according to statistics from the State Highway Police.
The figure has been maintained since 2022, with four retentions during the night of the Christmas celebration.
“This result reflects the effectiveness of preventive campaigns and citizens’ awareness of the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol,” the corporation stated. He recalled, this operation’s main objective is prevent traffic accidents resulting from the combination of alcohol and driving, reinforcing the commitment to guarantee road safety during the holiday season.
“The Saving Lives program is not intended to violate, but to prevent tragedies. The constant presence of officers at strategic points seeks to discourage motorists from driving while intoxicated, protecting both drivers and pedestrians,” the corporation added.
The Saving Lives Program will be active 24 hours a day until January 6with a deployment throughout the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, ensuring that both locals and visitors can enjoy the festivities safely.
Finally, state authorities called on citizens to celebrate responsibly, avoid driving if they have consumed alcohol, and opt for safe transportation alternatives.
What is the alcohol limit allowed when driving?
In accordance with the Protocol for the Application of Alcohol Tests of the General Directorate of Road Police and Traffic of the Entity, the measures are determined depending on the level of alcohol in the blood or exhaled air:
- -From 0.50 to 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood, or from 0.25 to 0.40 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air: Considered under the influence of alcohol or narcotic substances.
- -From 81 to 130 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood, or from 0.41 to 0.65 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air: Requires the implementation of safety measures, as long as the offender does not designate another responsible driver to continue driving .
- -More than 130 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood, or more than 0.65 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air: In this case, the driver and the vehicle are placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry.
