The SNCF confirmed on Wednesday the suicide of the driver of a TGV at the origin of the major disruptions which affected the South-East high-speed line, during Christmas Eve, Tuesday evening. The transport company thus confirms the first elements communicated by the Melun public prosecutor’s office (Seine-et-Marne). The driver “ended his life while the train was moving”, announced the SNCF, specifying that “the automatic stopping devices of the train were activated and the train stopped automatically”. “The safety of train passengers was not threatened at any time, nor was the safety of traffic,” assures the company.
The SNCF announced on its website on Wednesday the “gradual resumption of traffic following a personal accident south of Paris”. “Some delays are still to be expected,” she warned. Tuesday, Christmas Eve evening, around ten TGVs were delayed, affecting more than 3,000 travelers. Some trains were up to 5 hours late, but none were canceled, SNCF said.
