Canberra has contacted Moscow after a video emerged showing an Australian fighting in Ukraine being captured by Russian-speaking individuals, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Tuesday, saying his government was working to “obtain a positive outcome.”
The video, which appeared online on Sunday, shows the man, with his hands tied, being punched in the face by another man who is interrogating him in Russian. The captive, whose identity was verified by Australian media, said his name was Oscar Jenkins and he was a biology professor. He says he joined the armed forces because he wanted to help Ukraine.
