Smartfren Ensures Services Are Even Stronger After Merger with XL Axiata

For your information, XL Axiata and Smartfren have agreed to merge into one entity. Later, the two cellular operator companies will merge into a company called XLSmart.

According to Smartfren President Director Merza Fachys, the joining of XL Axiata and Smartfren will be a historic event for the telecommunications industry in Indonesia. Because, the consolidation of cellular operators is something that has been aspired to for a long time.

“This is a merger that will be a historic event for the telecommunications industry in Indonesia. In this way, we will have a big event that we have dreamed of for a long time, namely industrial consolidation,” he said at a press conference held in Jakarta, Thursday (12/12/ 2024).

Merza said that the idea of ​​consolidating cellular operators had been launched since the leadership of the Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara.

Rudiantara, at that time, stated several times his desire for Indonesia to have only three to four telecommunications operators.

“Hopefully with this agreement, XLSmart will truly become a concrete manifestation of the consolidation of the cellular industry in Indonesia,” he continued.

It was further explained that in this merger, XLSmart will continue to maintain products available under three brands. There are XL and Axis from XL Axiata, and Smartfren will also be maintained as a product.
