Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland He resigned this Monday after acknowledging differences with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Freeland published her resignation letter on social media in which she admits he has differences with Trudeau “on the best way to advance” the country’s economic situation.
“Upon reflection, I have concluded that the only honest and viable path is for me to resign from cabinet,” Freeland added.
The former Minister of Finance, He acknowledged that last Friday Trudeau had offered him another position in his Governmentand added that he will maintain his seat in the Lower House like this and will run for re-election in the next elections.
Chrystia Freeland, is a Canadian writer, journalist and politician. She was Minister of Foreign Affairs between January 2017 and November 2019.succeeding Stéphane Dion. In November 2019, she assumed the position of deputy prime minister (a position that had been vacant since 2006) and minister of intergovernmental affairs.

Government sources cited by Canadian media indicated that Freeland’s resignation has surprised Trudeau, who was preparing to reorganize his Government in the coming days.
For months now, the country’s media have pointed out that Trudeau wants to add Mark Carney, former governor general of the Bank of Canada, to his team and the Bank of England, to take charge of the Finance portfolio.
Trudeau’s plans to make Carney minister, and the scheduled reorganization of the Government, come as the ruling Liberal Party is 20 points behind the Conservative Party in voting intentions.

The conservatives have presented three failed motions of no confidence against Trudeau in recent weeks, to try to force elections before October 20, 2025, when the next general call to the runes is scheduled.
Freeland’s departure, too comes the same day Trudeau is scheduled to release the fall economic statementprepared by Freeland, in which the Government will announce “historic reforms” to its policies.
