A Collegiate Court confirmed the conviction of more than 14 years in prison against Bernardo Piña Juárez and Manuel Melchor Yáñez, alleged members of the Nueva Generación Cartel (CNG), for their criminal responsibility in the crimes of organized crime, carrying firearms, possession of firearms, cartridges and magazines, all for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces, and collection of firearms.
The defense of both convicted men filed an appeal against said sentence, which was dismissed by magistrates of the Collegiate Court.
Piña Juárez and Melchor Yáñez were arrested in flagrante delicto in the Jardines neighborhood, in Celaya, Guanajuato, during a search carried out by FGR agents in which they They seized three long weapons and two more square weapons, two magazines with useful cartridges, a metal silencer for a short weapon, three magazines, a cardboard with a legend alluding to the New Generation Cartel, as well as five cell phones.
According to the Approved Police Report (IPH), an investigation file was initiated, in November 2022, for the aforementioned crimes, due to an investigation for incompetence, received from the Public Ministry of the common jurisdiction in Celaya. After the investigation file was filed, the Public Ministry of the Federation (MPF) ordered a series of investigative acts and it was established that the seized weapons were used in various criminal events.
After those convicted filed an appeal, the Collegiate Court confirmed the conviction of 14 years and nine months in prison for Bernardo Piña Juárez for organized crime crimes with the purpose of committing crimes against health and collection of firearms, as well as carrying firearms and magazines for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces.
For Manuel Melchor Yáñez, a sentence of 14 years and six months in prison for organized crime with the purpose of committing crimes against health and collection of firearms, possession of weapons, magazines and cartridges for exclusive use.
