This week one of the most important festivities in Mexican culture and Catholicism will be celebrated, as each year the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12. Although December 12, the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, is not one of the dates marked by the Federal Labor Law (LFT) as mandatory rest, the National Banking Securities Commission (CNBV) reported that this day the banks they don’t open. This is because financial institutions respond to a general provision of the commission that is not directly related to the Catholic holiday.
In this way, it is true that the banks incorporated into the CNBV will close their doors next Thursday, however, this is not due to a religious celebration, but rather because December 12 is also celebrated Bank Employee DayTherefore, the workers of these institutions are given rest.
Although the banks are closed due to the suspension of work, it should be noted that the ATMs segregated in various geographical points of the country will be operating normally, so it will be possible to carry out the movements that the machines allow, such as withdrawing cash.
Additionally, digital, electronic and telephone banking operations will also be available as always, 24 hours a day.
Bank Employee Day was established by the Congress of the Union in 1952 with the purpose of recognizing the work of professionals who work in the banking field.
In addition, this date also commemorates the creation of the Association of Banks of Mexico, on December 12, 1929. The date coincides with the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe because employees used to join in religious activities.
