Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Since it was first established in Jakarta in 2018, the Apple Developer Academy has ‘produced’ more than 200 talented iOS developers.
As in previous years, Apple Developer Academy students who had completed the 9-month program at the academy finally showed off their final project applications as a sign of graduation.
In Jakarta, many students at the academy located in Green Office Park, BSD, South Tangerang focus on health projects.
In addition to health, many students work on their final projects with the goal of improving accessibility to those with health problems or overcoming challenges facing medical workers.
Oculab Application, What is it?
One of the student projects in the spotlight this year is Oculab, an artificial intelligence (AI) based application aimed at helping medical personnel detect Tuberculosis (TB) bacteria in sputum samples.
Based on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) report, Indonesia has the second highest number of TB cases in the world (Global TB Report, 2023).
“One of the main challenges in TB treatment is that the sputum examination process takes up to 45 minutes to 2 hours,” said Luthfi Misbachul Munir, Technical Lead, Full Stack Developer to the Liputan6.com team.
He added, “with this Oculab application, medical technicians at community health centers or hospitals can shorten the process to only 5-10 minutes.”
Different from conventional methods requiring laboratory technicians to manually examine 100 microscope fields of view, Oculab utilizes video from the microscope and AI technology to speed up the identification process.
