Barry Keoghan explains closing social media account: ‘It ends one day’ – Paudal

Barry Keoghan is a sought-after actor, but when the Irishman is not on set he also has his hands full navigating his private life. His relationship with pop icon Sabrina Carpenter recently ended and since then the Saltburn star has faced even more hate messages than before. On Friday the situation was full and Keoghan decided to delete his Instagram account.

A-list

Keoghan first appeared in several prestigious productions in 2017 when he had a role in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and in the same year starred in the idiosyncratic The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017). In recent years, the Irish actor has been a permanent fixture on the A-list of actors, and we saw him in the Oscar-nominated The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) and therefore also in Saltburn. In the Peaky Blinders Film he is one of the new names.

Thick skin

In November, Keoghan spoke out in the Louis Theroux podcast has already expressed about the above-average amount of troll messages he has to deal with as a celebrity. “If I didn’t have thick skin, I wouldn’t be here anyway,” the actor said at the time. He referred in particular to the seriousness of his role as a father (Keoghan had a son with his ex-partner Alyson Sandro, ed.), which means that he mainly thinks about his loved ones when hearing hate messages.

Internet rumors

About a week ago, various showbiz media confirmed that Keoghan was no longer a couple with Sabrina Carpenter, a well-known singer (Espresso, Please Please Please) who has made considerable progress, especially in recent years. In the wake of this news, the actor received many hate messages, fueled by internet rumors that Keoghan had cheated (which caused the break-up). On Friday, the actor decided he had had enough and deleted his Instagram account.

A day later, Keoghan explained what he thought was wrong with X:

The actor states in the message that he has not only had to receive a lot of online hate, but that some people have also visited his relatives in real life. They “knocked on grandmother’s door” or showed up at his son’s house. “I don’t want this nonsense to come between me, my work and my family anymore,” Keoghan said. He emphasizes that he does everything he can every day to set a good example for his son.

Fragments of reality?

The drama is currently showing in Dutch film theaters Bird (2024)in which Keoghan plays one of the main supporting roles. Just like in real life, he is a young father, although the social circumstances in which he has to raise his child are a lot poorer in the film.

Bird (2024)
7.3

Bird paints a portrait of life on the outer edges of British society, in which a family will go through the motions for each other despite the circumstances.
