The Kremlin has taken note of the call of the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trumpto an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and the launch of negotiations to end the war.
However, he does not believe that kyiv wants to negotiate, Russian Presidency spokesman Dmitri Peskov said today.
“We read carefully the statements made by the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trumpafter his meeting in Paris with (the president of France, Emmanuel) Macron and (the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr) Zelensky,” he said, according to Interfax.
The Kremlin representative stressed that Russia’s position regarding Ukraine “is well known” and its conditions were stated in the middle of the year by the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, but “it is precisely Ukraine that has rejected and continues to reject the negotiations.”

“To take the path of peace, Zelensky would only have to revoke his decree (which prohibits negotiations with Russia) and order the resumption of dialogue on the basis of the Istanbul agreements and taking into account the reality on the ground,” he added.
Peskov questioned the number of Ukrainian and Russian casualties stated by Trump and noted that it is “a Ukrainian interpretation,” but “the real figures are totally different.”
“Ukrainian casualties several times exceed the casualties of the Russian side,” settled.
Trump called this Sunday for an immediate “ceasefire” in Ukraine and the launch of a negotiating process to end the war launched by Russia against that country.
