In the final balance act of the Guadalajara 2024 International Book Fair (FIL), José Trinidad Padilla López, president of the fair, spoke about the expectations of collaboration with the new federal and state governments.
His message highlighted the importance of maintaining the cultural spirit of the FIL and avoiding politicization, pointing out that dialogue will be key in his administration.
Padilla López was optimistic regarding relations with the current authorities. “The expectations that I have are very positive, both with the state government that has just taken office, and with the federal government,” he stated.
He explained that there are already established communication channels with both instanceswhich will facilitate fluid collaboration.

Among the most relevant links, Padilla highlighted the role of the general rector of the University of Guadalajara, Ricardo Villanueva Lomelí, who has built important relationships with federal government actors. “One of those bridges is none other than our rector general, who has managed to establish a network of relationships with many very important actors in the federal government, starting with President Claudia Sheinbaum herself,” he noted, adding that these ties also include secretaries of state related to the educational field.
The FIL president stressed that, under his management, the event will remain a platform for openness and diversity. “The International Book Fair will continue to be an open house to all expressions, to all currents of thought,” he pointed out.
He reiterated that the nature of the FIL is cultural, not political or partisan, and that Its main mission is to promote dialogue and connection between various social and cultural actors.
