In a recent controversy between businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego, owner of Grupo Salinas, and the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, intense exchanges of statements arose.
From Buenos Aires, Argentina, during his participation in the Summit of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Salinas Pliego called Sheinbaum’s statements personal attacks.
Sheinbaum, in his morning conference on December 6, assured that Salinas owed taxes to the treasury and linked the fall in Elektra’s shares to its business management.
From his platform, Sheinbaum was firm in the face of the controversy, emphasizing that “Justice may take time, but it always comes.” He stated that Salinas must comply with his tax obligations like any other citizen.

In addition, he minimized his participation in the CPAC, calling it an attempt to “seek cover abroad.”
The president also related the fall in Elektra shares to the magnate’s business management: “Look at the actions, how they fell. We are not going to play their game either,” he concluded.

Faced with these accusations, the businessman responded forcefully: “Calling me an evader and that we have to put an end to me, in addition to making fun of the fall in stocks, shows what kind of human being he is,” he declared.
Salinas Pliego emphasized that the drop in the price of the shares does not affect him directly, since he does not plan to sell them, but he regretted the impact this has on small investors, who own approximately 5% of the company. “They will receive up to 70% less than expected. This reflects the lack of appreciation for those who generate wealth and pay taxes,” he said.

During his speech at CPAC and through publications on social networks, Salinas Pliego urged Mexican businessmen not to remain aloof from the country’s economic situation. “We cannot act as if nothing happened. We are all responsible for moving Mexico forward,” he stated.
The businessman highlighted the importance of being prepared to face the adverse environment, comparing it to having insurance against fire or floods: “If the environment collapses, our businesses will also fall. It is basic for any businessman to protect themselves against the context,” he argued.
