The president of the United States, Joe Bidendedicated a message yesterday Friday to his counterpart from Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumfor their leadership and collaboration that made it possible for more than a ton of fentanyl to be confiscated in Mexico this week, the largest shipment in its history, and which according to the president, was enough to kill 15% of all Americans.
“I want to thank the President Sheinbaum for their leadership and collaboration and to the numerous military and police officers on both sides of the border who made this possible, who have dedicated their lives to combating fentanyldismantle the traffickers and save your fellow citizens. “That matters,” Biden indicated in a statement issued by the White House.
On Tuesday, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of Mexico (SSPC) reported on an operation carried out in Sinaloain which they confiscated about 300 kilos of fentanyl in a home and another 800 kilos of the same drug in a van.
Biden recalled that during the four years of his mandate, which is close to concluding, he made the fight against the opioid epidemic “a central axis of my Unity Agenda in the country and of my cooperation with world leaders.”
“And we will not give up. During my administration, we have seized more fentanyl at our border in the last two years than in the previous five years combined. “We’ve put dozens of top cartel and money laundering leaders behind bars,” he said, reviewing his anti-opioid effort.
Biden also highlighted that the most recent data shows a more than 14% drop in overdose deaths nationwidethe largest decrease on record.
“It’s not just about facts and figures. It’s about families not having to endure the loss of a child, a parent or a spouse,” he stated.
“That is why today, together with partners from around the world, including Mexico, we commit to redoubling our efforts to control more drugs, arrest more traffickers and save more lives. And we make it clear: enough is enough,” said the president. .
