Around 1:30 a.m., during the night from Friday to Saturday, a man died of a heart attack at the depot of the Bobigny judicial court, in Seine-Saint-Denis, the place where people awaiting trial are detained. According to the police officers’ account, the defendant, who was to be presented to court for acts of domestic violence, felt unwell in his cell.
An open investigation
According to the doctor’s diagnosis, which came half an hour later, he was suffering from an anxiety attack and could be kept in his cell but under regular surveillance by the police, according to the same source. Shortly after his departure, the police found the defendant in cardio-respiratory arrest. Despite their attempts at resuscitation and the intervention of emergency services, the man was declared dead shortly after 3:30 a.m.
An investigation was opened to investigate the causes of death and entrusted to the departmental judicial police service, indicated the prosecution, without further details at this stage.
