With the opposition voting against, The joint Justice and Legislative Studies commissions of the Senate approved by majority three new laws regulating the reform of the Judiciary.
These are the projects sent by President Claudia Sheinbaum, for which The Organic Law of the Judiciary and the Judicial Career Law are issued and the Administrative Responsibilities Law is modified.
This package of laws establishes the powers that institutions and organizations will have; measures to strengthen the professional career, as well as the offenses that the new Judicial Disciplinary Court must punish and the sanctions that it must impose.
The changes to the Organic Law of the Judiciary determine the new way of working of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) with nine ministers and without division of chambers. It also specifies the powers that they will have in the Judicial Disciplinary Court and the Judicial Administration Body, which together will replace the current Federal Judiciary Council (CJF).
The Judicial Disciplinary Court will be made up of five magistrates who will be elected next year and will be in charge of receiving complaints, investigating and sanctioning judges who commit any misconduct, while the Judicial Administration Body will also be made up of five members, one of them appointed by the Executive Branch, another by the Senate and three by the Judicial Branch, which will only have administrative functions.
Regarding the Law of Administrative Responsibilities, the offenses that the judging persons may incur and the sanctions that may be applied to them are established. The opinion was sent to the Board of Directors of the Senate for publication in the Parliamentary Gazette, in order to be put up for consideration by the plenary session today.
