The American newspaper The New York Times released this Sunday a report in which it addresses the recruitment of chemistry students by the Sinaloa Cartel, for the production of fentanyl.
Given this, in the morning conference this Monday, The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, said that she is unaware of this recruitment that has been done to young people, Even so, they mentioned that they will do all the investigations regarding the report titled “Mexican Cartels Lure Chemistry Students to Make Fentanyl”.
“There is a well-known series, which received many awards there, by a chemistry professor in the United States, who defends this. I saw some episodes, I didn’t see it in its entirety, to be honest, I have to say. But maybe they took it from there, right? Because we don’t have information, and in any case, to the chemistry students, don’t get involved in that,” he commented.

Sheinbaum pointed out that the fentanyl and opioid crisis in the United States is a product of pharmaceutical companies, since there are documents on how some pain medications are used and that is why they are going to renew the entire campaign against drug addiction and in particular fentanyl.
“(…) Fortunately in Mexico we still do not have an opioid addiction problem that leads to overdose deaths. “This is a problem that the United States has and that Canada has, which was part of the call we had with President Donald Trump,” he said,
In that sense, Sheinbaum called on young people not to approach this drug, as it is a symbol of death.

“To families, let us be very close to our sons and daughters, to prevent them from getting close to any drug, but particularly these chemical drugs. So that’s where the consumption of these opioids really begins, which has resulted in 100,000 deaths annually in the United States,” stated Sheinbaum.
