The municipal president of La Paz, in Baja California Sur, Milena Quiroga Romero, and the head of the Ministry of Finance and Administration, Bertha Montaño Cota, They are being investigated for their alleged responsibility in the crime of embezzlement, after requesting a loan from the municipality of 18 million pesos for the hiring of the singer Chayanne, who is part of the billboard for the La Paz 2024 Carnival this coming February 18 at the stadium. The case is being investigated by the State Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, headed by Prosecutor Lennin Amao. In addition, the Governor of Baja California Sur himself, Víctor Castro Cosío commented that more needs to be known about what happened:
“We must investigate, if it is private, she (Mayor Milena Quiroga) has to respond.” We loaned her for the budget deficiency, if from there, she allocated it for the carnival festivities, she has to pay the state government.”
In this regard, one of the officials involved, Bertha Montaño Cota, declared to the media that: “yes there was a loan-as there normally are-, but it was not requested to cover a private event, but to “face a budget deficiency.”
While the mayor of La Paz asserted that: “This is not going to cost the City Council, much less will it compromise public resources”
According to the session of the Acquisitions Committee, Chayanne would charge 37 million 572 thousand 400 pesos, including VAT.
Finally, to this complaint is added the one presented by councilors Javier Bustos Alvarado and Blanca Pulido Medrano, of the National Action Party (PAN), before the Municipal Comptroller’s Office of La Paz, which details other possible crimes such as: bribery, embezzlement, abuse of authority and influence peddling.
