This is one more trend that is added to the long list of dangerous challenges that are popular on TikTok. For several days, Internet users have been publishing videos on the Chinese platform, under the hashtag #ilikemysuitcase, in which we see them entering a suitcase, with only their heads sticking out.
This challenge is inspired by a video broadcast 14 years ago on CNN, explains the American magazine Forbes. We see Donald Trump’s son, Barron Trump, barely 5 years old at the time, who is delighted with his new Louis Vuitton suitcase with which he will be able to go to school. “I like my suitcase,” the little boy pronounces in front of his parents.
This video resurfaced in recent days, republished by the Daily Mail on TikTok, and it was quickly hijacked by users, thus going viral. Internet users retrieved a remixed audio of this video of little Barron, and filmed themselves fitting almost entirely into a suitcase, with only their heads sticking out and saying “I like my suitcase”.
“I wonder if I should go to the emergency room”
However, like many trends that are a hit on TikTok, the challenge is not without danger. American influencer Gianna Harner, who has 11.4 million subscribers on the Chinese social network, paid the price by getting into her suitcase, before it tipped over and fell to the ground. Without arms or hands to break her fall, the young woman violently hit her head on the ground.
In her video viewed over 43 million times entitled “I don’t like my suitcase”, we then see her in front of her mirror, crying, with an ice pack on her head. “Like an idiot, I participated in this trend (…) and now I wonder if I should go to the emergency room (…). I have a bad headache, a huge bump on the side of my head, and I feel nauseous. Just opening my eyes hurts and I feel pressure on my head,” the young woman explained in another video posted on TikTok.
After several incidents that have been reported in recent days, the Chinese social network has decided to include in the latest publications the words “participating in this activity may hurt you or other people.”
