Mexico launched a national plan against smuggling and piracy that will cover the country’s 32 states, including ports and airports. This operation began with a massive intervention in a shopping plaza in the center of Mexico City.
The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrardhighlighted in a press conference that this measure seeks to protect the Mexican industry and businesses that operate in accordance with the law, underlining the importance of permanently enforcing regulations.
During the operation in Mexico City, More than 262,000 illegal products were seized without documentationcoming from countries such as China, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia, as detailed by Ebrard.
The official disassociated the plan from any demand from the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, one of whose great criticisms of Mexico is that the country is used by China to introduce its products into United States territory.

However, the implementation of the plan takes place the same week that Trump threatened Mexico with imposing 25% tariffs on all its products and a day after the conversation between the American and the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, on Wednesday.
However, the head of the Economy said that this first operation, in which the Secretary of the Navy also participated, had been planned weeks ago.
Ebrard assured that the operation called “Cleaning” was an instruction from the president and that it will not only go against those who sell that merchandise that entered the country as smuggled but also against the customs agencies that allow its entry, the transporters that transport it through the country. and those who rent the premises for sale.
