Not bad, but a little annoying too. Julia Simon and Quentin Fillon Maillet kicked off the biathlon season with a second place finish in the mixed single relay in Kontiolahti, Finland, for the World Cup opener. Encouraging, before the mixed relay takes place a little later in the afternoon – to follow live on our site from 3:30 p.m.

It could have been better, however, because the two Tricolores led a large part of the race. Julia Simon got the ball rolling with a pickaxe on each shot, imitated by QFM, but the imprecision of their opponents and their speed in putting these rab’ balls allowed them to be in the lead at halfway.
The Frenchwoman continued her momentum during her second pass and gave the last relay to her partner, still in first position, in the battle with Sweden. Unfortunately, Fillon Maillet failed on the last one standing, with three picks to whitewash the five targets against a faultless one for Sebastian Samuelsson.
QFM then found himself in the last loop fighting with the German Justus Strelow, also the author of a flawless shot on the last shot. The Frenchman, five-time Olympic medalist at the Beijing Games (twice in gold, three times in silver) in 2022, took the best in the sprint and the photo finish to snatch second place, behind Sweden.
