The recovery of the remains of the miners trapped in the collapses of the “Pasta de Conchos” and “El Pinabete” mines, the two located in the coal region of the state of Coahuila, “does not stop,” the President of Mexico said this Friday, Claudia Sheinbaum.
The President met yesterday with relatives of the victims, to whom he presented details of the rescue strategy in both mines.
“We are going to talk about the progress in the rescue; I committed to them when I was here with President (Andrés Manuel) López Obrador, two months ago; I committed to returning in November, and here we are,” Sheinbaum told the media before entering the Pasta de Conchos mine.
-Will the rescue continue? Sheinbaum was asked, who responded: “Yes, it will continue, it doesn’t stop.”
At the end of last September, Sheinbaum and Andrés Manuel López Obrador signed a continuity agreement for the rescue of miners trapped in the “Pasta de Conchos” and “El Pinabete” mines.
The meeting of Claudia Sheinbaum with the relatives was private and was organized by the state Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), in charge of the rescue in Pasta de Conchos and in El Pinabete, and the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC).

In the “Pasta de Conchos” mine, on February 19, 2006, after a collapse, 65 miners were trapped and in El Pinabete, on August 3, 2022, The coal mine was flooded and 10 miners were trapped, nine of which their bodies have already been recovered and identified and only one remains.
The collapse in “El Pinabete” reactivated the controversy in Mexico due to the actions of the mining companies in the coal region, where more than 100 deaths of people dedicated to miningaccording to the Pasta de Conchos Family, which brings together relatives of those who died in the mine of that name.
On July 26, Government of Mexico reported the identification of the first worker rescued in the “Pasta de Conchos” mine.
