Netflix has with Joy (2024) according to viewers, “a beautiful ode” to the scientists behind in-vitro fertilization. The true-life drama with Bill Nighy can count on a lot of praise: “An emotional dive into the origins of IVF and the first test-tube baby. A beautiful story about science, struggle and hope. A big 7/10.”

From 1968 to 1978, the film follows three pioneers who face opposition from the church, the state, the media and the medical establishment in their pursuit of the world’s first “test tube baby,” Louise Joy Brown.
