The French surfing family is in mourning. Two-time world vice-champion and six-time French stand-up paddle champion, Amandine Chazot died Wednesday at the age of 33 from cancer. Having battled illness for several years, she leaves behind a husband and a little boy.
“Amandine was not only a great champion, she embodied the deep values of our sport: perseverance, passion and immense humility,” reacted the Brittany Surf League on its Facebook page.
She worked as a radiologist at the Quimper hospital.
Originally from Finistère, Amandine Chazot worked as a radiologist at the Cornouaille hospital in Quimper when she was not on the water. “She had decided since the beginning of the year to put her radiologist coat in the locker room and returned to competition,” the French Surfing Federation said in a press release. With success in fact, since she brilliantly won in May in the Green Paddle Race in Loire-Atlantique.”
A member of the Pont-l’Abbé club, she carried the Olympic flame during its visit to La Torche beach on June 7. “Forever in our hearts, she will remain a model for all those who share the love of the ocean and surfing,” salutes the Brittany Surf League.
