Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recommended to the Council of Ministers to approve Hezbollah’s ceasefire proposal in Lebanon and his cabinet has done so.
The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahusays it recommends the Council of Ministers approve Hezbollah’s ceasefire proposal. The proposal comes after a day in which Israel has intensified attacks in Lebanon. The cabinet has approved the 60-day proposal. The ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah will begin at 2:00 GMT on Wednesday.
“The duration of the ceasefire depends of what happens in Lebanon. In full understanding with the United States, we maintain full freedom of military action. If Hezbollah violates the agreement and tries to arm itself, we will attack. If you try to renew the terrorist infrastructure near the border, we will attack,” Netanyahu stressed.
On Tuesday afternoon, a large explosion caused a column of dense white smoke over the province of Tire in southern Lebanon. This event followed airstrikes by Israeli warplanes, which hit 20 different locations in a period of two minutes, including areas of central Beirut, shortly after an evacuation alert was issued.
Las Israel Defense Forces(IDF) reported that the seven buildings hit in the airstrikes were allegedly associated with Hezbollah, allegedly used for financial management and storage. The attacks killed three people and injured 26 others in central Beirut, where local residents claimed the buildings were residential.
In response, Hezbollah began launching attacks against northern Israel, supposedly to show solidarity with the Palestinians, just one day after Hamas carried out its attack on October 7, 2023, which led to the invasion of Gaza. Since then, both sides have engaged in a continuous exchange of fire.
In early September, Israel intensified its bombings and deployed troops to Lebanon, promising to stop Hezbollah attacks. According to Lebanese health authorities, more than 3,760 people, many of them civilians, have died from Israeli attacks in Lebanon over the past year.
The ongoing bombings have displaced 1.2 million people. Israel claims to have eliminated more than 2,000 Hezbollah members. Hezbollah’s actions have forced some 50,000 Israelis to evacuate their homes in the northern regions, and its rockets reach as far south as Tel Aviv. At least 75 people have lost their lives, more than half civilians. Additionally, more than 50 Israeli soldiers have been killed in ground operations in Lebanon.
