British John Alfred Tinniswood died on Monday at the age of 112 in a nursing home in Southport, England. His death marks the end of his status as the world’s oldest man, a title he had held since April 2024, after the death of Venezuelan Juan Vicente Pérez, who lived to be 114 years old.
Born August 26, 1912 in LiverpoolTinniswood became the oldest man in the United Kingdom and the oldest man in the world in 2020according to the Guinness Book of Records.
“On his last day he was surrounded by music and love,” Tinniswood’s family wrote in a statement released Tuesday, where they also dedicated words of affection to the Hollis Care Home residence team and to the rest of the people who cared for him in recent years on behalf of the Briton, who “always liked to say thank you.”
“He was intelligent, determined, brave, calm in the face of any crisis, talented in mathematics and a great conversationalist”the family said about Tinniswood, a self-confessed football and Liverpool FC fan.
The elderly laureate married his wife, Blodwen, in 1942 and a year later had his first and only daughter, Susan. Tinniswood became a widower in 1986 and now leaves four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, The British participated in the Second World War doing logistical and accounting tasks and later he worked for the Royal Mail postal company and as an accountant for the oil companies Shell and BP until his retirement in 1972.
She moved into Hollis Care Home in 2012, shortly before her 100th birthday, when she also began receiving an annual greeting card from the British royal family. first from the late Queen Elizabeth and more recently from King Charles III.
The oldest living man on record was the Japanese Jiroemon Kimura (1897-2013), who lived to be 116 years old.
