It’s been a year since that Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023) appeared on Netflix. At the time, the makers already announced that it would most likely remain just one season. The series was well watched and received high ratings, but the creator is standing his ground, as he confirmed on Twitter earlier this week: there will be no second season of the beloved animation.
It’s over
Unfortunately, the success of the series has not been able to further enthuse creator Bryan Lee O’Malley for a second season. Scott Pelgrim Takes Off was with the return of the film’s voice cast Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) a special project for both the makers and the fans of the series. Actors including Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin and Chris Evans all reprized their roles.
Almost impossible
O’Malley confirmed the news via his X account, where he wrote:
It’s been a year since Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was released. It was an honor to work with the entire cast and team from all over the world. It felt like I was conducting a symphony orchestra every day. From the moment writer BenDavid Grabinski suggested the idea, the project felt like a unique miracle. Anyway, we recently got word that the series won’t be coming back. As you know, only one season was planned and we had to call in a lot of favors to make it happen, so making more episodes would have been almost impossible, yet I know some of you remained hopeful.
