TF1 announced this Wednesday that the broadcast schedule for the next episodes of its series Cat’s Eyes was going to be modified. From Monday December 2, only one new episode will be broadcast per evening, instead of two since the launch on November 11. A way to prolong the pleasure and suspense for the first channel which has focused heavily on this program.
Scheduled for Monday opposite the unbeatable Love is in the meadowon M6, which captivates “French women under 50 responsible for purchasing” – a preferred target for advertisers –, Cat’s Eyes cost TF1 25 million euros, making it its most expensive series to date.
The model “Lupine”
And the success is rather there. After a launch of around 5 million viewers, episodes 3 and 4 once again attracted an average of 4 million fans. TF1 thus competes with M6 on most indicators. And the replay scores of Cat’s Eyes are also very satisfactory.
These audience figures over time – whether on MyTF1 or during rebroadcasts of episodes in the second half of the evening in December – will be particularly scrutinized by TF1 which wishes to install Cat’s Eyes like a new franchise. By its tone and setting, the series clearly leans towards Lupina huge success from Netflix which also features: an idealized Paris of today, spectacular thefts, abandoned but sympathetic investigators, a very rich (and very evil) big bad guy…
An unfaithful adaptation
The reactions of viewers are thus quite clear-cut. While many of them welcome an energetic series and a refreshing detective story, others regret that Cat’s Eyes TF1 version has little to do with the original cartoon.
