She won’t go to prison. At least, not for now. This Tuesday, the investigating chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal confirmed that Santiago’s mother could remain free, but under judicial supervision, reports The Parisian. The mother of this child born prematurely had kidnapped the child on October 21 from the maternity ward of Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis). Santiago was then 17 days old and absolutely needed to receive care related to his premature birth.
With the father, the mother had fled abroad, ignoring the kidnapping alert which had been quickly triggered in an attempt to intercept them. The couple had spent four days on the run, before being arrested in a hotel in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. The mother had agreed to be extradited to France and was indicted for kidnapping.
According to investigators, the couple had acted in this way fearing that their child would be placed in care. The child’s mother’s cannabis addiction seemed to worry caregivers and hospital staff. On November 7, she was indicted. The detention required by the Bobigny public prosecutor’s office had been refused by the judge of freedoms and detention, who had opted for strict judicial control, accompanied by an obligation of care. The prosecution’s appeal was ultimately in vain.
The mother hospitalized in psychiatry
According to The Parisianthe child’s mother, whose state of health is no longer worrying, was not present at the hearing. The young woman was admitted to a psychiatric establishment to try to treat her addiction to cannabis. His parents were present.
The father’s case, however, has not yet been decided. For now, Kevin remains incarcerated in the Netherlands.
