On November 16, 2024, Mexico City became the scene of a historic event organized by Xbox Mexico. On this occasion, it was possible to establish a new récord Guinness by gathering the largest number of people dressed as Steve, the iconic character from the popular video game Minecraft.
With a total of 794 participants, the previous record, which had been set in Ireland with only 337 people in 2015, was surpassed. The event took place at the emblematic Monument to the Revolution, a place steeped in history that, for one day, became the setting for a new page in the history of video games in Mexico.
The historical event at the Monument to the Revolution
The call, which was launched on the Xbox Mexico social networks, invited fans of the video game to join the event and dress up as the iconic character of Steve. The images shared by the brand on November 14 quickly echoed on social platforms, achieving thousands of reactions and shares.
However, not all interested parties knew about the need for pre-registration, which raised some questions among participants on social media.
Despite this small inconvenience, the event continued with a resounding success. From the early hours of November 16, participants began arriving at the Monument to the Revolution, where they were given Steve masks and accessories to complete their costume.
At 11:00 AM, the souvenir photo was taken and the historic figure of 794 people in costume was validated by the official representatives of Guinness World Records.

Its simplicity, which is based on the construction of virtual worlds using 3D blocks, has made it a space where the limits are only set by the players’ imagination. Despite its simple aesthetic, the game has managed to stay fresh with constant updates and content development by the community.
Minecraft was born as a personal project by Swedish developer Markus Persson, known as Notch, who released the game in 2009. What started as a small project quickly became a global phenomenon, thanks to its simplicity, its customizability, and the freedom it offered to players.
